THE News of the World has found the world's oldest ever natural mother — a British housewife who fell pregnant and gave birth to a son WITHOUT fertility treatment at 59.
Amazingly miracle mum Dawn Brooke and husband Raymond kept her record-breaking news a secret from the world for TEN YEARS.
But we can reveal their astonishing and moving story as a beacon of hope to all the thousands of couples who are desperate for a child in later life but cannot face the cost and possible heartache of test-tube clinics.
The birth smashes the global record for non-IVF births set by American Ruth Kistler who had a daughter in Los Angeles in 1956 AGED 57.
Dawn first cradled her newborn baby in her arms just 12 months before becoming eligible for her old age pension.
Dad Raymond, 74, speaking in public about the astonishing birth for the first time, admitted that the unplanned pregnancy had come as a bit of a shock.
"People are generally not quite aware of the extreme good luck we had at our age," he said modestly.
"We're overjoyed to have our son. We've been hugely fortunate. He's such a fantastic boy."
Dr Hilary Jones said: "Dawn's case is utterly remarkable.
"It's extraordinary how firstly she managed to get pregnant at 59, secondly that she didn't miscarry and thirdly that the baby was born totally unharmed. It's one of the most amazing stories I've seen."
White-haired Raymond said the entire family decided to keep their unique birth to themselves as the youngster grew up in the beautiful surroundings of their home on Guernsey.
"We've kept it quiet, and didn't tell anybody," added the former company director.
But it's plain as he now speaks of his bright little boy with glowing pride that the pair share an incredible bond that defies the six-decade age gap and keeps dad Raymond young at heart.
This weekend is a landmark time for the record-busting Brooke family. For on Monday lad will blow out the ten candles on his birthday cake, as his youthful-looking mum also celebrates turning 69.
Their minds will go back to that day — August 20, 1997 — that London-born Dawn opted to have him delivered by caesarean op at Guernsey's Princess Elizabeth Hospital.
It beat the British record established by non-IVF mum Kathleen Campbell from Kimberley, Nottinghamshire, who had son Joby at 55 in 1987.
Dawn had moved to the Channel Islands with her new love, wealthy businessman Raymond. And the couple married, just three months before the birth, at a private ceremony in their impressive £1 million home.
Proud mum Dawn was this week visiting relatives in Canada but her son from a previous marriage, 33-year-old Nick Otway, recalled the family's shock at news she was expecting.
"When they told us we all gave Ray a round of applause," he said. "It was a case of ‘Well done, Ray-obviously keeping things in order!'
"He and Mum are both extremely healthy and active and having a youngster to bring up is now a large part of that.
"It's brought them both a tremendous amount of happiness.
"There are women out there who get to 40 or 45 and think, ‘I'm far too old to have a baby.' This should give them some reassurance to know they're NOT."
Nick added: "A lot of people think when you get to a certain age you stop having sex. But it goes on.
"My mum and my stepdad make a fantastic couple.
"And Ray has so much fun with the lad. They're extremely close."
Standing by the family bookshelves crammed with kids' stories and the hit Murderous Maths series, Nick said: "They're both heavily into Harry Potter. It's something they share. The boy is extremely creative and mathematical as well. He's a jack of all trades really.
"Ray's been reading to him for years. Now the lad's got a phenomenal IQ. I think he'll do extremely well in later life."
The closeness of father and son was obvious this week as they enjoyed a trip to neighbouring island Jersey.
On Friday they went to an adventure park and played mini-golf together.
Shaming parents 50 years his junior, doting Raymond even joined his delighted son on the slides and clambered into a model ship.
And the lad, clutching a well-thumbed book, matched his smartly-attired dad in white shirt and black bow tie as they arrived for dinner at their hotel
Beaming at his son, Raymond said proudly: "He reads while he's waiting for his food to arrive. He's just finished the latest Harry Potter so we had to find something else."
Dawn's elder son Nick credits a remarkable quirk of genetics for his mother's world-beating achievement and points to several relatives who survived beyond 100.
He joked: "A few of my mates are always saying things like, ‘Your mum's cute' and I have to tell them ‘Oi, that IS my mother you're talking about. Watch it!'
"But it's a compliment, really. All of the family have got young genes. I'm 33 and some people say I look about 24, 25—and I'm quite happy with that! My sister's 39 and only looks about 27.
"It's in the genes, that's what we put it down to.
"My mum and my stepdad don't seem their age in any way."
But Dawn's birth certificate cannot lie. And the proof of her record is there in the paperwork above. It shows she was born Dawn Chivers in 1938 in the Streatham area of London where she grew up.
And the 1997 Guernsey birth certificate of her ‘little surprise' son completes the incredible story.
All Britain wishes both of you a fantastically happy birthday! back to list
